The design team at Martha Stewart developed a new weave expressly for our assortment of all cotton area rugs. This innovative technique creates a very thin pile rug made from all natural, all cotton yarns, densley woven into the finest tufted cut-and-loop pile. A rug woven this fine is remarkably soft and durable and lends a fresh, modern character to any room.
Derived from a 17th-century Italian fabric document, the surprisingly modern pattern in Strolling Garden replicates outlined laid work called couching. In the original archival textile, this technique involves cording applied to satin cloth; in this modern version, viscose yarns are used to outline the same lustrous pattern against Strolling Garden’s cut-pile background of New Zealand wool.
